Engagement models

The contract should match how much is known. IncogX will not sell a fixed price for a problem that has not been discovered, and will not keep a team on open-ended time when the scope is already stable.

In brief, then in detail

  • Fixed price. Scope, assumptions, and exclusions are baselined. Change is estimated. This fits work discovery has already made clear.
  • Time and material. You buy capacity. Status is weekly: what moved, what is blocked, and what the spend implies. This fits learning.
  • Dedicated team. A stable group on a monthly cadence, able to scale. Portfolio priority decides which initiative they serve.
  • Retainer and MVP. A retainer reserves hours. An MVP is the smallest release that can test the idea, with a lean budget and a decision at the end: continue, change, or stop.

How it is run

Every engagement starts with a free consultation for qualified work and a written proposal. There is no hidden fee. An NDA is signed before project material is shared. Intellectual property passes to the client on full payment. Lean portfolio practice applies above the contract: fund the outcome, review the evidence, and do not keep a team busy only because the budget year has not ended.

IncogX staffs engagements with PMP-certified project managers, business analysts who hold the Certified ScrumMaster credential, and ISTQB-certified testers. PMP is issued by PMI, CSM by Scrum Alliance, and ISTQB by the International Software Testing Qualifications Board. Certificate numbers are not published. Senior engineers on these teams have more than ten years in production systems.

Terms, in plain language

  • Baseline. The approved scope, and the cost and time attached to it. Later requests are compared with it.
  • Change control. The visible way new scope is accepted, deferred, or traded. No quiet additions.
  • Lean budget. Money attached to an outcome and reviewed, rather than locked to a project that has stopped teaching you anything.
  • MVP. The smallest release that can test a real assumption. It is a learning tool, not a synonym for unfinished.
